מדענים הצליחו לגלות כוכב לכת ועליו תרכובות הדומות לאלה שהיו הבסיס לחיים על פני כדור הארץ. הגילוי התבצע על ידי חללית של נאס"א שחקרה את כוכת הלכת קֶרֶס שמרחקו מן השמש גדול פי שלושה ממרחקו של כדור הארץ מן השמש. בעקבות הגילוי שהתפרסם בכתב העת המדעי SCIENCE יצטרף הכוכב לרשימת הכוכבים שהמדענים מחפשים עליהם סימני חיים.
